For more than 130 years, LONSDALE has been an integral part of the history of boxing and sport.
From the historic boxing rings of London to modern street culture, the name LONSDALE continues to represent authenticity, strength and heritage.
1891
The story of LONSDALE begins when the 5th Earl of Lonsdale organizes one of the first boxing matches fought with gloves, laying the foundation for a historic relationship with the sport.
1909
The first Lonsdale Belt is created and awarded to a professional boxer, becoming a symbol of honor in the world of boxing.
1959
Former boxer Bernard Hart receives official permission from the 7th Earl of Lonsdale to use the name LONSDALE for boxing equipment and apparel.
This marks the birth of the brand.
1960
The first LONSDALE store opens in London on Beak Street, quickly becoming a reference point for boxing enthusiasts.
1963
Boxing legends such as Muhammad Ali, Henry Cooper, and Sugar Ray Robinson compete wearing LONSDALE equipment.
1979
Paul Weller, singer of The Jam, wears LONSDALE T-shirts throughout the band’s world tour, bringing the brand from the boxing ring into music and youth culture.
2000
World champions such as Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe continue the tradition, wearing LONSDALE during their fights and training sessions.
2013 — Lonsdale Arrives in Greece
At just 24 years old, Simos Skandalis officially brings the historic LONSDALE brand to Greece, founding Lonsdale Hellas and launching lonsdale.gr.
With a vision to introduce the authentic culture and fighting spirit of LONSDALE, he begins building the brand’s presence in the country — a journey that in the years to follow will establish LONSDALE among the most recognizable streetwear and sportswear brands in Greece and transform it into part of the culture and style of an entire generation.
2014
The first Lonsdale retail store opens at 137 Praxitelous Street in Piraeus.
2018
The brand’s growth continues with the opening of the second store in Nea Ionia, at 346B Irakleiou Avenue.
2021
The new Lonsdale Hellas headquarters are established in the center of Piraeus.
2022
The wholesale showroom opens, welcoming partners and retailers from across Greece.
2023
Lonsdale expands to Thessaloniki with the opening of its first store at 112 Tsimiski Street.
2024
The Piraeus store relocates to a larger space at 141 Praxitelous Street, featuring dedicated sections and an entire floor devoted to boxing.
2025
A new Lonsdale store opens in the pedestrian area of Peristeri, at 52 Ethnikis Antistaseos Street.
2026
The e-shop moves to new facilities in Chalandri, improving service and logistics across Greece.
Today, the Lonsdale Hellas team continues to grow while maintaining the same passion and philosophy as on the very first day.
